La Roche Posay Effaclar range review

1ed

Hello everyone, I hope you are feeling great and not at all sad about the upcoming autumn! I am SO sorry, I’ve been MIA recently – my laptop broke and I had to borrow one that I couldn’t use for uploading or deleting photos. Fortunately, my baby’s back home now and so am I on the blog!

La Roche Posay’s Effaclar range has been very popular among bloggers and young people battling acne. Their DUO [+] moisturizer is a prized bestseller that almost anyone who tried it raves about. Tempted by great reviews and affordable price I decided to purchase three items from the range hoping for wonderful results. Did I like it? You can see below 馃檪

EFFACLAR H MOISTURIZER

5edit

INGREDIENTS:聽AQUA / WATER, SQUALANE, GLYCERIN, DIMETHICONE, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, BUTYROSPERMUM PARKII BUTTER / SHEA BUTTER, CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, PEG-100 STEARATE, GLYCERYL STEARATE, PEG-20 STEARATE. BISABOLOL,聽 CARBOMER, TRIETHANOLAMINE, AMMONIUM POLYACRYLDIMETHYLTAURAMIDE / AMMONIUM POLYACRYLOYLDIMETHYL TAURATE, HYDROXYPALMITOYL SPHINGANINE, TETRASODIUM EDTA, XANTHAN GUM, CETYL ALCOHOL, TOCOPHEROL, SODIUM BENZOATE, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, PARFUM / FRAGRANCE.

This moisturizer was the first item聽from the range that I got (actually it was a gift, I didn’t purchase it myself). It is supposed to moisturize and soothe oily skin that has been dried and damaged by harsh anti-blemish treatments. At the time I started using it my skin was a bit dry due to winter and prescription only anti-acne medications so it sounded like a perfect product for me. When it comes to soothing and moisturizing it did it’s job perfectly, I didn’t suffer from dry patches anymore and my makeup was applying really smoothly. However, I will not repurchase it because my skin was getting oily and shiny after few hours and unfortunately it broke me out a little bit as well. Even though Effaclar products are made for oily skin, this moisturizer contains few potentially problematic ingredients for acne prone skin such as squalane, dimethicone and shea butter that can clog pores and increase acne if you are sensitive to them. When it comes to strictly moisturizing, simple face creams from LRP I much prefer their Toleriane Ultra moisturizer that didn’t make my skin oily during the day (although it did break me out a little bit too, but much less).

EFFACLAR DUO [+] MOISTURIZER

4ed

INGREDIENTS:聽AQUA / WATER. GLYCERIN, DIMETHICONE, ISOCETYL STEARATE, NIACINAMIDE, ISOPROPYL LAUROYL SARCOSINATE, SILICA, AMMONIUM POLYACRYLDIMETHYLTAURAMIDE / AMMONIUM POLYACRYLOYLDIMETHYL TAURATE, METHYL METHACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMER, POTASSIUM CETYL PHOSPHATE, ZINC PCA, GLYCERYL STEARATE SE, ISOHEXADECANE, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, MYRISTYL MYRISTATE, 2-OLEAMIDO-1,3-OCTADECANEDIOL, NYLON-12, POLOXAMER 338, LINOLEIC ACID, DISODIUM EDTA, CAPRYLOYL SALICYLIC ACID, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, XANTHAN GUM, POLYSORBATE 80, ACRYLAMIDE/SODIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYLTAURATE COPOLYMER, PENTAERYTHRITYL TETRA-DI-T-BUTYL HYDROXYHYDROCINNAMATE, SALICYLIC ACID, PIROCTONE OLAMINE, PARFUM / FRAGRANCE.

The Effaclar DUO [+] was my second Effaclar try. I was looking for something that will matify my skin efficiently, help reduce acne and hyperpigmentation and won’t聽break me out. Hearing all the good reviews I decided to try this one. I have to admit I’ve only used it for about three weeks or even less (unlike the Effaclar H that I used til it finished). The product had a nice consistency, promising ingredients (except dimethicone, ugh) but it didn’t live up to my expectations. It not only broke me out due to dimethicone but it also didn’t cooperate with any makeup at all. I tried to use Estee Lauder Double Wear, Clinique Anti-blemish and MAC Studio Fix foundations on top of it and all of them disgustingly melted and separated from the skin and I am 100% sure it’s not the foundations’ fault since they are normally my favourite ones. Above all, my skin looked tired and kind of worn-out (can you say this about skin, I’m not sure?) and I didn’t see any improvement when it comes to hyperpigmentation. So unfortunately, the second moisturizer was a no no for me as well. (PS. I’m gonna post about my favourite moisturizers for oily/acne prone skin soon!)

EFFACLAR PURIFYING FOAMING GEL

6ed

INGREDIENTS:聽AQUA / WATER, SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE, PEG-8, COCO-BETAINE, HEXYLENE GLYCOL, SODIUM CHLORIDE, PEG-120 METHYL GLUCOSE DIOLEATE, ZINC PCA, SODIUM HYDROXIDE, CITRIC ACID, SODIUM BENZOATE, PHENOXYETHANOL, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, PARFUM / FRAGRANCE.

This is the last, but definitely not the least product since I really liked it and actually repurchased it. This聽very聽simple cleanser is soap-free and has a skin friendly pH. I find it properly cleansing, not drying and very efficient. It is not great like my all time favourite Clinique foam (that I shortly reviewed here) but for one fourth of the Clinique’s price I understand I shouldn’t expect the same quality. The only downside to the Effaclar gel is that it contains Sodium Laureth Sulfate and fragrance, two potentially irritating ingredients, especially the sulfates are known as one of the聽causes of聽skin irritation (for me though it works perfectly fine without causing any redness). For the price however, it’s rare to find a good cleanser without sulfates. I use it as my morning cleanser that help my skin stay matte during the day. I might repurchase it again after a while.

I hope you enjoyed reading!

Have you used these products before? What do you think of them? What are your favourite moisturizers and cleansers for acne-prone skin?

xx, A.

Cze艣膰 wszystkim, mam nadziej臋, 偶e nastr贸j Wam dopisuje pomimo nadchodz膮cej jesieni 馃槈 Przepraszam za ostatni brak post贸w – niestety zepsu艂 mi si臋 komputer, a nie mog艂am zgrywa膰 i edytowa膰 zdj臋膰 na po偶yczonym. Teraz na szcz臋艣cie m贸j ukochany laptop wr贸ci艂 do domu, wi臋c i ja wr贸ci艂am do blogowania.

EFFACLAR H KREM

Listy sk艂adnik贸w znajdziecie聽w cz臋艣ci angloj臋zycznej.

Ten krem by艂 pierwszym produktem z serii Effaclar, w kt贸ry si臋 zaopatrzy艂am (a raczej dosta艂am). Ma on nawil偶a膰 i 艂agodzi膰 t艂ust膮 cer臋 podra偶nion膮 i wysuszon膮 kuracjami przeciwtr膮dzikowymi. Zacz臋艂am go u偶ywa膰 zim膮, kiedy moja cera by艂a miejscami przesuszona z powodu mroz贸w i kuracji antytr膮dzikowych. Krem faktycznie 艣wietnie nawil偶a i 艂agodzi. Przesuszone miejsca wr贸ci艂y do normy, a makija偶 aplikowa艂 si臋 dobrze.

EFFACLAR DUO [+] KREM

Effaclar DUO [+] by艂 moim drugim podej艣ciem do tej serii kosmetyk贸w. Szuka艂am produktu skutecznie matuj膮cego, redukuj膮cego, a nie nasilaj膮cego tr膮dzik i rozja艣niaj膮cego przebarwienia po nim. Musz臋 przyzna膰, 偶e u偶ywa艂am go tylko trzy tygodnie, albo i mniej (w por贸wnaniu z Effaclarem H, kt贸rego u偶ywa艂am do ko艅ca). Mimo 偶e produkt ma przyjemn膮 konsystencj臋 i obiecuj膮ce sk艂adniki (z wyj膮tkiem dimethicone..) nie spe艂ni艂 on moich oczekiwa艅. Pr贸bowa艂am go u偶ywa膰 w po艂膮czeniu z聽podk艂adami Estee Lauder Double Wear, Clinique Anti-blemish聽i聽MAC Studio Fix i ka偶dy z nich okropnie zwa偶y艂 si臋 na sk贸rze, a jestem pewna, 偶e nie jest to wina makija偶u, kt贸ry zawsze si臋 u mnie sprawdza艂. Niestety drugi krem z serii Effaclar r贸wnie偶 u mnie si臋 nie sprawdzi艂 (PS. Nied艂ugo wrzuc臋 post o moich ulubionych kremach do cery t艂ustej i tr膮dzikowej!)

EFFACLAR 呕EL DO MYCIA TWARZY

Ostatni i najlepszy wed艂ug mnie produkt z serii, kt贸ry przetestowa艂am, a nawet ponownie kupi艂am to 偶el do mycia twarzy. 聽U偶ywam 偶elu Effaclar codziennie rano i z racji ,偶e dobrze oczyszcza sk贸r臋, cz臋艣ciowo zapobiega tak偶e jej 艣wieceniu.

U偶ywa艂y艣cie (albo u偶ywali艣cie) wcze艣niej wymienionych produkt贸w? Jakie jest Wasze zdanie na ich temat? Jakie s膮 Wasze ulubione kremy i 偶ele do dla os贸b z cera tr膮dzikow膮?

Origins launch in Poland + GinZing moisturizer review

What I got from Origins

Hello everyone, I hope you’re doing great! Today I’d like to talk about Origins brand that recently launched in Poland. Origins is a part of Estee Lauder Companies and is supposed to be their (almost) “all-natural” line with beneficial ingredients derived from nature itself, such as plant oils or extracts. Seeing their ingredients, most of them are of natural origin indeed, hence the name. They launched their first store in continental Europe last month in Poland and because their products are widely recommended in the blog and Youtube network I decided to give them a try as well. I purchased a starter kit containing the GinZing Energy-boosting mositurizer, Checks and Balances Frothy face wash, Drink Up intensive overnight mask and Clear Improvement active charcoal mask. Because it was the store opening, I also got a set of samples in a Nanette Lepore for Origins pouch: another charcoal mask, GinZing moisturizer and two Drink Up Intensive masks (and two products from their anti-ageing line that I already gave away). The staff in the store was professional and very kind and the store had a nice ambience also due to the interesting interior design.. In this post I will shortly review the moisturizer and there will be a separate post for the masks and the cleanser as well.

After coming back home I decided to read a bit about the brand and I saw many negative reviews on Beautypedia (I mentioned the website in my post about cosmetic ingredients that you can find here) and I got a bit concerned by the fact that the products seem to contain many natural but at the same time potentially irritating ingredients. I still decided to try them, especially because my skin is not that sensitive when it comes to irritation.

Origins GinZing energy-boosting moisturizer
Origins GinZing energy-boosting moisturizer
Origins GinZing energy-boosting moisturizer

Ingredients:聽Water, Methyl Trimethicone, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Jojoba Esters, Panthenol, Dicaprylyl Carbonate, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Oil, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil, Mentha Viridis (Spearmint) Leaf Oil, Limonene, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Butter, Castanea Sativa (Chestnut) Seed Extract, Rubus Idaeus (Raspberry) Leaf Wax, Dimethicone, Coleus Barbatus Extract, Hordeum Vulgare (Barley) Extract, Trehalose, Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Germ Extract, Panax Ginseng (Ginseng) Root Extract, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Salicylic Acid, Foeniculum Volgare (Fennel) Seed Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Phospholipids, Tocopheryl Acetate, Sodium PCA, Arginine, Caffeine, Cholesterol, Linoleic Acid, Biotin, Folic Acid, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Polysilicone-11, Carbomer, Pantethine, Squalane, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hexylene Glycol, Lecithin, Calcium Carbonate, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tromethamine, Phenoxyethanol.

I was testing the moisturizer for about 2 weeks聽of daily use, I have聽oily and acne prone without any dryness or irritation except blemishes if I have them at the time. The moisturizer has a strong and refreshing scent that itself is a bit energy boosting. The consistency is light and gel-like due to the silicone (Methyl Trimethicone, can be pore-clogging) so its a pleasure to apply. It is not meant to be for oily skin, but I honestly don’t know how a person with dry skin could use it – to me, it doesn’t moisturize聽at all, it’s very mattifying (my oily skin stayed matte all day). Because of it’s primer-like texture it’s a great base for makeup. After two weeks聽of using I noticed that my skin got dry patches and because of that looked more tired (not so energy-boosting after all…), it also broke me out a little and I find it聽irritating because I experienced redness around my nose and my聽blemishes got seriously inflamed. I had to stop using it and聽then my skin went back to normal within a little more than a week. I find this moisturizer drying and irritating and I would not recommend it for any type of skin, especially sensitive or acne prone, although I know that many people liked it since it’s considered Origins’聽bestseller.

What are your experiences with Origins? What are your favourite products of the brand? Did you use the GinZing moisturizer?

Dzisiaj chcia艂abym napisa膰 par臋 s艂贸w o marce Origins, kt贸ra niedawno otworzy艂a sklep w warszawskiej Galerii Mokot贸w. Po przejrzeniu list sk艂adnik贸w musz臋 powiedzie膰, 偶e wi臋kszos膰 z nich faktycznie jest pochodzenia naturalnego. W Warszawie otwarto pierwszy sklep Origins w Europie (kontynentalnej) i z racji, 偶e ich produkty s膮 popularne w blogo- i vlogosferze, postanowi艂am te偶 je wypr贸bowa膰. Kupi艂am zestaw startowy zawieraj膮cy krem na dzie艅 GinZing Energy-boosting mositurizer, 偶el do mycia twarzy Checks and Balances Frothy face wash oraz maseczki Drink Up intensive overnight mask i Clear Improvement active charcoal mask. Wybra艂am si臋 tam z przyjaci贸艂k膮 w dniu otwrcia, wi臋c dosta艂y艣my r贸wnie偶 kosmetyczki Nanette Lepore for Origins z du偶ymi pr贸bkami: maseczki Clean improvement i DrinkUp Intensive, krem GinZing i dwa produkty z serii anti-ageing, kt贸re ju偶 odda艂am. Konsultantki w sklepie by艂y profesjonalne i sympatyczne, w sklepie by艂a mi艂a atmosfera pot臋gowana przez ciekawy wystr贸j.

Krem Origins GinZing energy-boosting moisturizer

(Lista sk艂adnik贸w znajduje si臋 powy偶ej w wersji angielskiej.)

Krem ten teoretycznie nie jest przeznaczony dla cery t艂ustej, ale nie wyobra偶am sobie, 偶eby osoba z such膮 sk贸r膮 go u偶ywa艂a – nie zauwa偶y艂am praktycznie 偶adnego nawil偶enia, a krem dzia艂a silnie matuj膮co (moja cera by艂a matowa ca艂y dzie艅). Poniewa偶 konsystencj膮 przypomina baz臋, dobrze sprawdza si臋 pod makija偶em. Po dw贸ch tygodniach u偶ywania zauwa偶y艂am, 偶e moja sk贸ra sta艂a si臋 miejscami wysuszona i przez to wygl膮da艂a na zm臋czon膮 (przeciwnie do obiecanego energy-boost…), a tak偶e troch臋 mnie “wysypa艂o”, Sk贸ra by艂a podra偶niona, szczeg贸lnie w okolicach nosa, a “niespodzianki” zaogonione. Przesta艂am go u偶ywa膰 i po troch臋 wi臋cej ni偶 tygodniu moja cera wr贸ci艂a do normy.

Jakie macie do艣wiadczenia z mark膮聽Origins? Jakie s膮 Wasze ulubione produkty? U偶ywa艂y艣cie GinZing moisturizer?

5 Products to Fight Oily Shine in Summer | My First Post

title

Hello Everyone!

I’m very excited to introduce you to the first post on Lipsticks and Dreams! I decided to start with tackling the issue of shine during summer since many of us are facing this problem when it starts to get really hot outside. I used to聽struggle a lot to keep my oily skin in control during summer, so now that I found my holy grail products I can’t wait the share them with You!

1. Mud Mask Purifying and Mattifying with Zinc and Copper by Sephora.

1

1ing

To combat oilyness during summer the basic step is cleansing. Without deep cleansing even if you use a mattifying cream or tons of powder it will not help much, because sebum will still be produced excessively and the pores will be clogged (is this gross? I hope not!).

I had been a fan of clay masks for a long time but this is the best one I have tried so far. Unlike many others, this one is not harsh and overdrying, it leaves the skin smooth and soft with clean pores (goodbye blackheads on your nose! ;)). After applying the mask on a clean and slightly wet face you wait for it to dry and then wet the mask and rub it off with circular motion聽– the mask works also as a scrub because of the exfoliating granules it contains. It is meant to be used once or twice a week depending on the needs. I cannot imagine living without this product now, it has helped my oily and acne prone skin a lot!

2. Anti-Blemish Solutions Cleansing Foam by Clinique.

2

For everyday or almost everyday cleansing I use the Clinique Anti-Blemish Solutions Cleansing Foam. This product really helps reduce both oilyness and acne. If I need to have perfect makeup all day I use this cleanser beforehand and I can be sure it will do its job. It is a holy grail product for me that I repurchased multiple times and that has never failed me. The big bottle lasts for around 6 months so even though the price tag is quite high I would say it is totally worth it. The product is quite drying so I advise not to use it twice a day, personally I use it only in the morning to prepare my face for makeup. If used too often, it can give the opposite effect because overdried skin will “defend” itself by actually producing more sebum.

3. Anti-Blemish Solutions All-Over Clearing Treatment by Clinique.

3

The All-Over Clearing Treatment by Clinique is a Daytime Moisturizer that makes a perfect base for makeup and leaves the skin smooth and matte. It is not very moisturizing, its main purpose is to mattify the skin, therefore it can be too drying for normal or combination skin but perfect for oily and very oily skin. I use it only for special occasions or for the days when my makeup has to stay the same from day to night. Unlike most of the Clinique or Estee Lauder moisturizers, this one is acne prone skin friendly, because it does not contain Dimethicone – a聽silicone that breaks many people, including me, out. I never use this moisturizer after using the cleansing foam mentioned above. Both products can be drying, so if combined, they make even my skin dry. However, its a great product to help your makeup stay all day and keep your skin from getting oily, especially because one of the main ingredients is Cyclopentasiloxane – a silicone that can be found as a main ingredient in primers as well.

4. Double Wear Stay-in-Place Foundation SPF 10 by Estee Lauder.

4

Some of You will probably think I am crazy now 馃槈 One of the heaviest foundations on the market for summer?! I agree, the best face makeup you can use in summer is a bb or cc cream, maybe a light foundation or nothing at all. Unfortunately, there are days when you need to look flawless all day or all night and that is not an easy effect to achieve for a person with very oily skin (and acne scarring for me additionally), especially in the summer weather. On these days I use the Double Wear Foundation beacuse it doesn’t transfer, doesnt melt in the heat, it keeps the skin matte聽without a mask effect and covers all the traces of blemishes. I have it in the shade 1N1 which is a bit too light for me, but when covered with the darker powder mentioned below, it matches my skin perfectly. It doesn’t come originally with a pump, but I just bought a MAC pump that fits.

5. Superpowder Double Face Powder by Clinique.

5p

5ing

The Clinique Superpowder is my all-time favourite. It is a powder/powder foundation that gives a bit o coverage and has a satin-matte, healthy and photoshop-like finish. What I like the most about this powder is that it gives additional coverage and cooperates with almost every foundation that I wear underneath. What I found out about strictly mattifying, sheer powders is that sometimes they tend to separate from the foundation and give this awful melt-like, uneven effect that is much worse than not wearing makeup at all. Because this powder is not strictly (but still) mattifying, it works beautifully with a foundation and gives a bit of a blurred effect. I never touch up my makeup after using this powder, very rarely I just press a porous paper towel on the skin to absorb excess sebum if I’m wearing the makeup for more than ten hours. To apply it, I use the attached sponge that I clean with a disinfectant soap once a week (no jokes with acne ;)). After using the sponge for a while, I replace it with the plain Sephora ones. My shade is 02 matte beige.

Please leave me a comment about your favourite ways to combat shine during summer! Im also very curious about your opinions on the mentioned products, if you have used them!

Thank you for reading, if you liked the post dont forget to follow the blog via email to keep updated about the new posts!
